This article emerges from the pedagogical context around the conceptualisation and first stage of implementation of the Museu da Pesca (Fishing Museum) in Cape Verde, an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. M_EIA, University Institute of Art, Technology and Culture, started the project for the Museum in 2012, bringing together teams of students, teachers, and several professionals, questioning their roles, relations and the contribution of design/drawing in the expression of the archipelago's memories. The history of museology in Cape Verde, as well as the history of education and design/drawing, is generally marked by western normative trends. For that reason, it is necessary to work in order to provoke, through changes in education, a greater implication in the discourses and practices of museology. The article is centred in the confrontation of the concepts of history and memory, and in the relations between official narratives and the representation of the voices of local communities in the museum. We present a reading of the challenges experienced in the process of conceptualising and designing the Fishing Museum, through the lens of New Museology, Critical Museology and Critical Pedagogy.es_MX
